David Livingstone

David Livingstone School is part of the STEP Academy Trust, and through our work with La Fontaine, the school got in touch to request our help transforming an intervention space into a whole school library.

The budget was very limited - even though the PTA had done a fabulous job of raising the funds - until one family kindly stepped in to offer a significant financial boost to the project. This enabled us to use the services of ABC's favourite set designer Olivbells who created a chill out reading area within the library.

The children voted on an under the sea theme following a visit from Jo where they saw the options open to them and got to choose the library they wanted.

During the February half term, the portacabin was transformed from an unloved intervention space into what is sure to be the children's favourite room in the school. The ribbon was cut by local children's book illustrator Selom Sunu, who joined the school team, the school council, parents and PTA to look at the new library. It's fair to say the room exceeded all expectations, and the happiness and excitement the children felt on seeing their library for the first time was clear to all.
