The school wanted to revitalise reading by making it a priority amongst its pupils. The children wanted a space they could escape to with a book so we created them a magical watery underworld by transforming an unloved intervention space into a Deep Blue Sea Library.
The school's parent group The Friends of Gordon (FOG), fundraised enough money to support the purchase of the bookcases, rugs and decorations for the space and ABC provided the design, installation and enough pre-loved books to fill the library.
Children's author Nigel McGee was there to say a few words and officially cut the ribbon to launch the library with his aptly named book Bite The Shark. Our partners at Tales on Moon Lane curated a selection of the latest exciting literature for the children to enjoy and Taste Coffee Shop and John Payne in Eltham were collection hubs for members of the public to donate their books for the school.
Once again this project has been a collaboration between the school, its community of families and friends, local business and the charity. We're so proud of our involvement in this wonderful project and we are sure the children will enjoy this library for years to come.
