La Fontaine

La Fontaine Primary School wanted to offer its pupils a different option at break times. Creating a quiet reading space in the playground has long been a dream for the teachers, but it took a particularly motivated PTA and design advice and books from ABC to bring the hut to reality. Over the course of many months, the families of the school fundraised enough money to purchase an amazing ark shaped hut. A team of volunteers put the hut up, and then ABC helped with the design and creation of the space. The talented team at The Acorn Group created the impressive wall murals, really making the jungle theme come to life.‍

The Tiger Den was born!‍

The finished library surpassed all expectations – and the details and care that had gone into the project were clear to see. From the teacher reading chair to the image of the school dog Peggy being included on the mural, the children were absolutely delighted with the finished result. They patiently queued outside in the rain as it was clear a visit to the Tiger Den was the hottest ticket in town! Every child that came in was eager to settle down on the grassy carpet with one of the many brilliant pre-loved books donated by ABC to the school.

The ribbon was cut by Michael Tirrell the Head Teacher who had some lovely words to say about everyone in involved in the library and especially to Katrina Coffey, a parent who led the project for the school and who volunteered weeks of her time to enable the creation of The Tiger Den.

Working with La Fontaine on this project has been a pleasure, and we’ll sure everyone at the school will enjoy The Tiger Den for many years to come.
