ABC had so many ideas for World Book Day we had to rename it World Book Week!
Ambitious but exciting plans involving 5 schools, 3 storytellers and 3,500 books ensured the ABC team were kept busy for a whole week.
ABC contacted some local schools in need of books to fill their libraries, or that have pupils who would really appreciate taking home some books of their own. We made them a World Book Day offer they couldn’t refuse.
Two schools got donations of 1000 books each to fill the shelves of their brand new libraries with pre-loved but in excellent condition books suitable for children aged 3-11. The selection included reference and picture books, chapter and graphic novels. The schools are due to launch their libraries to their excited pupils within the next few weeks.
At the other schools ABC gave every child a gift of 2 books each to take home and keep forever. The books had been carefully selected according to age and reading ability and the children were delighted to take them home in their very own ABC branded cotton tote bag.
To accompany the donation, ABC arranged for a storyteller from local company London Dreamtime to attend each school as an additional gift from us to them. Every day the storytellers performed to a packed audience and wowed the children with their traditional folk tales from around the world.
